A fixed deposit of LKR 2.5 million has been successfully transferred to the Jaffna Medical Association (JMA) to establish the Late Surgeon Dr. V. Sutharshan Memorial Postgraduate Research Fund. The first annual research grant of LKR 150,000 for the year 2026 has been allocated, and the Research Fund Articles have been finalised.
The grant will be available from the next JMA operational year commencing in February 2026, supporting postgraduate research projects under the supervision of the Research Study Board (RSB) of the JMA.
In parallel, efforts are underway to establish the MFC Tamil Alumni Bursary Fund, aimed at supporting undergraduate medical students of the Jaffna Medical Faculty. Details of this bursary programme will be announced in due course once the formal structure has been finalised.
